You’ll find Beach Bunny Swimwear gracing the beautiful bodies of the world’s sexiest women. But if you want to find the woman who designed these drop-dead gorgeous suits, you’ll have to look inside her Orange County, CA office. There, behind the towering stacks of fabric swatches and hardware samples, founder and designer Angela Chittenden is hard at work on her next best-selling creation. In designing that first Beach Bunny Swimwear line, Angela knew she wanted to create something different, something special, “something that would let women show off their bodies, feel sexy and confident, glamorous, flirty and fun all at the same time.” She searched for unique fabrics, experimented with sexy cuts, added embellishments and hardware no one had ever thought to add to swimsuits before. Rather than looking at other swimwear designer lines, she found inspiration in the bedroom, blending elements of upscale lingerie into her styles. So if you’re on the hunt for a sassy new swimsuit that shows off your every curve, then bring your sense of fun — and your mom — and head over to Beach Bunny.
Mikoh Swimwear is the collaboration of sister duo Oleema and Kalani Miller. Born and bred in the small beach town of San Clemente in Orange County, CA., Oleema and Kalani grew up with the ocean in their backyard. The Mikoh Swimwear Line is their statement on swimwear for the modern woman, inspired by a life spent in bikinis and oceans around world. Oeema and Kalani were raised in a family of surfers, designers, and lovers of the sea. Both were encouraged to explore creativity and self-expression - Oleema through her passion for all things fashion, Kalani with paintbrush in hand. Creative expression was the spirit of the household and the water was a second home. As teens the sisters surfed and modeled, traveled, lived swimsuit to swimsuit. Kalani's path led to University while Oleema took to the road. Mikoh brought them together in creativity, inspired by the things they'd seen and learned on their journey - new found friends, foreign beaches, distant cultures and customs. Oleema is the Creative Director and Designer behind Mikoh. A former sponsored professional surfer, Oleema has been traveling the globe since age 13 which has greatly inspired the look, feel, and integrity of Mikoh. Oleema has strategized and executed the brand's creative direction and design aesthetic since its launch. Today, Kalani brings her education to bear on the business of Mikoh; Oleema's focus is pure creative. As sisters and partners their talents balance perfectly. Both girls spend the year living out of their suitcases, gathering inspiration, exploring new lands, and immersing themselves in other cultures. The Mikoh brand was born of this lifestyle: Swimwear for the confident modern woman, unique and wearable at home and abroad. Its name derives from the girls' last name, Miller, as well as the first initial of Kalani and Oleema and their younger sister's name, Hana. In Japanese, Miko is a tern that one meant "Female Shaman" or "Female Prophecy". Mikoh is synonymous with feminity, beauty and strength. The line fuses statement prints and colors from around the world with luxurious fabrics and modern fits. Each bikini is seamless and hardware-free, designed to easily mix and match for one-of-a-kind styles. The collection has grown to include swimwear, ready-to-wear beach cover-ups, clothing for the traveler and the dreamer, and Mikoh X Surf, a line of surf-ready pieces in smartly cut neoprene. Mikoh is a vision of swimwear for the certain woman who knows who she is - if not where she's going next.

Born in Cuba, and raised in Miami, Florida, Lourdes “Luli” Hanimian has always had a strong desire to become an innovator in the fashion industry. Growing up with the beaches of Miami at her doorstep, it is not surprising that Luli developed a keen interest in swimwear. Luli and her brother-in-law Augusto Hanimian are the creative forces behind Luli Fama Swimwear. They met in 1990 while both working for Augusto’s aunt, a noted swimsuit designer. Together the two gained practical experience in the fashion and swimwear markets. In 1993, they launched their first company, debuting with Cover Style, a junior swim line. In 2003, Luli Fama Swimsuits was born. Earning acclaim as well as a devoted following of consumers and celebrities, Luli Fama became known for its universally flattering fit and immaculate designs. Luli Fama incorporates an eclectic mix of color palettes and textures, resulting in a unique look that is at once sophisticated, festive and charmingly girly. Artfully placed embellishments, such as faceted glass beads, creates a perfect balance on streamlined silhouettes. The assortment of exclusive pieces, including monokinis, bikinis, cover-ups and dresses, are made from light fabrics and enhanced exceptional details tailored to accentuate a woman’s figure. Luli Fama is ideal for fashion- forward women who love sunlit summers and nights full of energy. Every collection reflects a new thought process and design concept. Luli and Augusto are inspired by a variety of factors, including Luli’s Cuban descent and Miami upbringing. The cosmopolitan culture and Latin influence in Luli Fama Swimwear are apparent in the contemporary shapes, intense colors and fusion of innocence and seductiveness. Originality is a fundamental component, as Luli Fama understands the importance of a target customer and abides by her personal philosophy, “You can’t be everything to everybody. You have to have a niche and stay true to your consumer by providing a look in the highest quality possible. “And the name Luli Fama? Luli has always been my nickname, for Lourdes,” says Hanimian, “and Fama means fame in Spanish. It was a joke from my husband that I always wanted to be famous, so he thought Luli Fama would be the perfect name for the line.” Judging from celebrities such as supermodel Bar Rafaeli asking for Luli Fama by name while shopping recently, one could say that Luli Fama has indeed achieved fame and success.
Trina Turk considers herself lucky on two counts. First because she knew at a fairly young age what she wanted to do when she grew up - to design clothing professionally and second, because she is succeeding at doing it beyond her wildest dreams. Born in California and raised there and in the state of Washington, her mother taught her to sew when Turk was 11 years old. She studied apparel at the University of Washington and took her first job with the Seattle-based sportswear manufacturer, Britannia Jeans. Turk’s next stop was Los Angeles, where she waded into a sea of 30 prints per season designing surf wear for Ocean Pacific. Other jobs designing mostly juniors followed. Realizing that her résumé wasn’t likely to bring offers to design a line of contemporary clothing for women, Turk’s next step was the launch of her own business. With her husband, then stylist, now photographer Jonathan Skow as partner, Trina Turk, the company, was born in 1995. In the same year her clothing was sold by Barney’s New York, Fred Segal, and Saks Fifth Avenue. With design and production headquartered minutes from Downtown Los Angeles in Alhambra, California, Trina Turk’s wholesale sales topped $40 million in 2007. Inspired by the multicultural mix, architecture, and landscape of Los Angeles and California, The Trina Turk Collection is full of the Season’s most casually sophisticated – and “must have” silhouettes. Trina’s philosophy is to create wearable, optimistic fashion that incorporates the best aspects of classic American sportswear. The collection has become known for an amazing pant fit and gorgeous signature prints. Swimwear was introduced in 2007 through a license with Apparel Ventures. Trina has drawn constant inspiration from the cocktail party and poolside lifestyle of the desert, so it was fitting that the first Trina Turk boutique opened in March 2002 in Palm Springs, California in a desert modernist building designed by Albert Frey. The flagship store in Los Angeles is an airy, ladylike pink-hued space. In December,2006, Trina Turk New York opened in the meat packing district, bringing a splash of California color to the neighborhood. Trina Turk residential opened in may 2008 next door to the original boutique in Palm Springs. new stores for Fall 2008 include Burlingame, CA and Fashion Island in Newport Beach, CA. Spring 2009 will bring the launches of a hosiery “guest designer” line with Hue, and a printed fabric collection for the home with the venerable home furnishings manufacturer Schumach. Enjoy the bright vivid colors and sophistication of Trina Turk Swimsuits and Resortwear.

A little bikini triva.
In 1946, Western Europeans joyously greeted the first war-free summer in years, and French designers came up with fashions to match the liberated mood of the people. Two French designers, Jacques Heim and Louis Reard, developed competing prototypes of the bikini. Heim called his the “atom” and advertised it as “the world’s smallest bathing suit.” Reard’s swimsuit, which was basically a bra top and two inverted triangles of cloth connected by string, was in fact significantly smaller. Made out of a scant 30 inches of fabric, Reard promoted his creation as “smaller than the world’s smallest bathing suit.” Reard called his creation the bikini, named after the Bikini Atoll. Bikini Atoll is located in the Marshall Islands which was the site for nuclear tests in 1940 and 1950.
